THE CREDIT CRUNCH: HOW TO BITE BACK
By Daniel Jones, 22 June 2008
''The People today reveals how YOU can bite back against the worldwide credit crunch - and save more than £1,000 a year on your shopping bills. And you won't just be quids in - you'll also get the SAME quality you have always demanded from your essential groceries. The more-for-less promise is the brainchild of a group of experts who have invented a revolutionary way to compare the "DNA" of goods at Britain's big three supermarkets. And it guarantees massive savings whether you are buying cereals for your kids' breakfast or detergents to do your weekly wash. The system - devised by a website called mySupermarket.co.uk - compares items at Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda. The mySupermarket team claim the goods they choose will be just as good as your favourites - but could be up to 65 per cent CHEAPER. And they reckon their system could save an average British family of four £20 on their weekly shop. That's more than £1,000 a year - enough to pay for a summer holiday. And the website is proving a smash hit with UK consumers with inflation currently running at 3.3 per cent - the highest level since Labour came to power 11 years ago - and the cost of food, fuel, household bills, mortgages and rent continuing to skyrocket. ''

20 ways to survive the credit crunch
By Lisa Bachelor and Jill Insley, 13 April 2008
''You may love Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, but if you are serious about saving money, you have to make sacrifices. Draw up a shopping list on mySupermarket.co.uk (make sure you have eaten before you start doing this and don't let your children or partner help). The website will work out the cheapest supermarket for you and send you to the relevant online checkout. If you can't bear to compromise on quality, follow the example of a former marketing director of a major supermarket chain: he buys his store-cupboard staples from Asda and Tesco, and shops for vegetables and meat at Sainsbury's and Waitrose.''

The great inflation test: can we cut your costs?
By Ali Hussain, 30 March 2008
''The couple currently shop at Sainsbury’s and pay about £43 a week. Using mySupermarket, which works out how much a similar basket of shopping would cost in a rival outlet, they found they could save £7 a week by shopping at their local Asda instead. mySupermarket compares the cost of products in the four main UK supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Ocado (Waitrose). Users select the goods they would normally buy to create a shopping basket. The website calculates how much the shopping would cost in each of the stores.''

Prices are up, credit is tight - so let's start slashing costs
By Lisa Bachelor, 30 March 2008
''The cost of a basket of supermarket goods went up by 16 per cent last year, while in the last nine months the price of some staples such as eggs and butter has risen by more than 30 per cent. While most people doggedly stick to their local supermarket, those who shop online might be able to cut their food bills by using price comparison website mySupermarket.co.uk. The website works by asking you to choose your usual supermarket - Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's or Ocado. It then scans your trolley contents and suggest swapping some items for others that are better value. You can then 'send' your trolley to the online checkout of whichever supermarket works out cheapest overall. Average annual saving: £936 for the average family that spends £90 a week. ''

Miss Pennypincher: All hands to the pump to beat inflation
By Melanie Wright, 20 February 2008
''If you do a big supermarket shop every week, then the website www.mySupermarket.com is invaluable. The site enables you to compare how much different supermarkets charge for the items you are buying, and claims consumers can typically save 20 per cent on their weekly shop. The online supermarkets featured on the site are Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Ocado. Using the site is straightforward – once you have chosen to shop from one of the four supermarkets, you'll see products from that supermarket organised on "virtual" shelves. While you shop, you can check the price of your trolley in all four supermarkets at the top of your screen, and can also keep an eye on how much you can save within your chosen supermarket by swapping some of your products. When you have finished shopping, you click "Checkout" and compare the cost of your trolley in all four supermarkets and switch to one of the others if you want to. Once you have pressed "Send", mySupermarket.com sends your trolley to the online supermarket where you can sign in and pay.''

Click your way to savings – the top 10 internet consumer sites
By Kate Hughes, 02 February 2008
''This site has the potential to save you cash without changing the products that end up in your cupboards. As you fill your virtual trolley, the site's "Price Checker" search kicks in, informing you of the same or comparable products sold cheaper elsewhere. The clever bit is that the site then transfers your trolley for you if you so chose. Typical savings can be up to £20 on a standard shop, and £4 or £5 on individual items such as crates of beer. Its "Health Checker" tool will help you manage your shopping trolley for low-fat diets or other dietary choices, by informing you of the calories you'd save with alternative products. It will even let you accumulate points on those ubiquitous loyalty cards. ''

Give your groceries a health check
19 September 2007
''An online supermarket has launched a service that is said to steer shoppers towards healthier food. It asks consumers to choose whether they really want to buy their full-fat, high-calorie favourites - or swap them for a better alternative. It also allows users to compare the price of their virtual shopping trolley from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and the Waitrose delivery firm Ocado before ordering. The site's directors claim shoppers using the free service could save 20% on their weekly shop, and knock an average of 4,000 calories off their family's weekly consumption if they do swap items. ''

Pound savers
By Ruki Sayid, 19 September 2007
''The Health Checker - pioneered by mySupermarket.co.uk - is the first online service that gives nutritional information about products from lasagne and curry to crisps and ice-cream. And once it's counted your calories it suggests a healthier alternative you can buy so you can save pounds on the scales. Meanwhile the cash counter will tell you how much you could save, in pennies. According to health experts, it could knock 4,000 calories off your weekly shop - which for a family of four is a saving of 1,000 calories each. The site uses the Food Standards Agency's traffic-light system to allow shoppers to see at a glance the difference in calories fat, salt and sugar in food they are buying.''
